Every Review Counts

Book reviews are so important, both to authors and other readers. Do you consider a book's rating before you buy it? Most people do. When you leave a review, you're helping other readers find books and new authors they might love.

But you're also helping the authors. Did you know that advertisers consider the number (and rating) of reviews when deciding to promote a book? It's true. Those emailed bargain books that arrive in your inbox--authors seek out those positions; some are highly competitive.

So, if you love a book and want to support an author while helping out your fellow readers, think about leaving a review.

Thanks so much for your continued support of me and my books!

#ReadWomen2015

Who’s your favorite female author? Can you pick just one?

Do you tend to read more books written by men or women? If you’re reading this romance-themed blog, it’s likely women--and probably romance.  But among all genres this simply isn’t the case.

Last year British author Joanna Walsh coined the hashtag #ReadWomen2014 and designed this postcard featuring her favorite female authors.
Picture
Walsh wrote “…although women read more than men, and books by female authors are published in roughly the same numbers, they are more easily overlooked.” She said female authors are marginalized “by top literary journals, both as reviewers and the reviewed.”

A recent Goodreads survey indicated readers prefer books written by their own sex, but that readers of female-penned books were 80% female, while for male writers it was 50/50. In essence, far fewer men read books written by both women and men.

These statements may come as no surprise to you.  Certainly, female authors (and readers) dominate the romance genre. But it’s a good reminder this holiday book buying season to support other women, and women writers.

Believe me, we appreciate the support!

Waffling on whether or not to get Book 2 in the Descended of Dragons series, Origin Exposed?

Check out this fantastic review from Kim T of Beyond the Pages.

Where do I begin with my review, regarding this incredible fantasy book that is Origin Exposed?!?! It was a potent dose of excitement mixed with fire and suspense. I L-O-V-E-D it!!!+++ (Yes, that's right. This book gets 3 exclamation marks plus 2 thumbs up and a shiny, gold star.) I kid you not, book two was even better than book one.

In this book, we get to take a closer look at the lives and relationships of the characters who were introduced in the first book. We get to learn about the fire dragons, we get to hear about the taboo associated with mixed breed relationships, we get to see the power plays and manipulations of those who should have been looking out for the good of Stella and her friends, and so much more. What completely gut-punched me though was the rightness...umm...wrongness (???squeak) of Stella and Ewan. I cannot not believe I'm saying this, but I, the strong Stell-Ro supporter and cheerleader, really loved how Ewan came across in this book. (Well, minus the caveman rigidity when he sought answers about the mystery dragon. Still, I adored his genuine passion and heart interest in Stella.)

The unexpected twists that came with the final two conflicts in this book had me on pins and needles. I could say more (trust me, I totally could), but I won't. All I know is that at the end of the day, I am well and truly hooked on this series. Bring it!
